Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon India’s information technology (IT) industry to ensure that the country emerges as a leader in the world in coming years. Lauding the performance of the country’s IT industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “When the chips were down, your code kept things running.” PM Modi addressed the NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum (NTLF) via video conferencing.

He also appreciated the IT industry for their resilience during the Corona period. “At a time when every sector was affected due to corona, you achieved a 2 per cent growth. It is commendable if India’s IT industry adds USD 4 billion to its revenue at a time when suspicions of de-growth were being cast,” Prime Minister Modi said.
He then talked about the various initiatives taken by the government in liberalising various sectors, the most recent being the mapping sector.
The Prime Minister listed the steps taken in recent times such as National Communication Policy, policy to make India Global Software Product Hub and Other Service Provider (OSP) guidelines which were issued during the Corona period. He noted that the inclusion of Information services into 12 champion service sectors has started bearing fruit.
“Recent liberalization of maps and geospatial data will strengthen the tech startup ecosystem and the wider mission of Aatmnirbhar Bharat,” he added.
PM Modi urges companies to ‘Make for India’
The Prime Minister called upon the start-up founders not to restrict themselves to just valuations and exit strategies. “Think of how you can create institutions that will outlast this century. Think about how you can create world-class products that will set the global benchmark on excellence”, the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister also asked the tech leaders to emphasize imprint of ‘Make for India’ in their solutions. He called upon them to establish new parameters of competitiveness to maintain momentum and Indian technological leadership.
‘Decide your goals, Country is with you’: PM tells start-up founders
The Prime Minister asked them to think about giving world-class products and leaders in the run-up to 100 years of Independence in 2047. “Decide your goals, Country is with you,” said the Prime Minister.
Talking about India’s performance during the pandemic, Prime Minister said, “There was a time when we were dependent on other nations even for the smallpox vaccine. Now we are providing made in India corona vaccines to several countries.”
The 29th edition of NTLF, the flagship event of the NASSCOM, is being organised from February 17-19. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Shaping the future towards a better normal’.
