Employee Provident Fund (EPF) acts as a saving tool for the employees. The employee and the employer contribute an equal amount towards savings that can be availed upon retirement or after switching jobs. The services of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) have improvised thanks to digitisation. EPFO online services allow you to check your account balance in Employee Provident Fund (EPF) without having to visit any office. You can now check your EPF balance in four ways – via SMS, by giving a missed call, via the EPFO website, and the Umang App.
PF Balance Check by SMS service
UAN activated members may know their balance by sending an SMS to 7738299899
-Send an SMS to mobile number 7738299899.
-You need to send the message as EPFOHO UAN ENG.
-You’ll need to set your preferred language of communication. You can do that by using the first three characters of your preferred language.
-If you wish to receive updates in English, use the first three characters of the word English like EPFOHO UAN ENG – where ENG stands for English.
-This facility is available in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.
PF Balance Check by missed call service
You can inquire about your EPF balance by giving a missed call to ‘011-22901406’ from your registered Mobile number. This service is only available upon the integration of your UAN with your KYC details.
-Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
-After placing a missed call, you will receive an SMS providing you with your PF details.
-The call automatically gets disconnected after two rings. This service is free of cost.

PF Balance Check using EPFO portal
-Log on to the EPFO portal.
-Go to the tab ‘Our Services’ and choose the option that says “for employees” from the drop-down menu.
-Now, click on the option ‘Member passbook’ under the option “Services.”
-A login page will appear.
-Enter your UAN number and password here after it has been activated.
-After logging in, you can access your EPF account.
PF Balance Check using the Umang/EPFO app
Members can view their account balance and EPF statement through the ‘Umang’ mobile application. The ‘Umang’ app is available in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujrati, Punjabi, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya, Telugu and Urdu. Click on EPFO on the app. Go to employee-centric services and click on view passbook. You can enter your UAN and OTP sent on the registered mobile number to view your balance in Employee Provident Fund.

According to reports in media, retirement fund body EPFO is likely to announce the rate of interest on provident fund deposits for the financial year 2020-21 next month.
Speculation is rife that the EPFO may lower interest on provident fund deposits for this fiscal (2020-21). Right now, the interest rate on provident fund deposits is 8.5 per cent. In March 2020, EPFO had lowered the interest rate on provident fund deposits to a seven-year low of 8.5 per cent.
