Bharat Biotech has announced the cost of Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin for third phase of vaccination that will kickstart next month. Covaxin will be available for state governments at Rs 600 per dose and private hospitals at Rs 1,200 per dose, the company has announced.
“Following the Government of India directives, we announce the prices of COVAXIN vaccines – Rs 600 per dose for state hospitals and Rs 1,200 per dose for private hospitals,” Bharat Biotech said.
Covaxin was developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Virology.
Earlier, the Serum Institute of India (SII) fixed the prices of Covishield vaccine at Rs 400 per dose for state governments and Rs 600 per dose for private hospitals.
Other Covid-19 vaccines in India
India has approved Covishield and Sputnik V for its inoculation program against COVID-19. The Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) has approved emergency use for Zydus Cadila’s Pegylated Interferon alpha-2b, ‘Virafin’ for treating moderate Covid infection in adults.
A release by Cadila Health said, “The drug has also shown efficacy against other viral infections.”
Vaccination for all above 18 from 1 May
Everyone above 18 years of age will be eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 from May 1. As per the government notification, registration for the third phase of Covid-19 vaccination will begin on April 28 for those between the age groups of 18 and 45 years. Through @MyGovIndia,the govt informed that there will be no walk-in registrations for this age group of people.
Users need to register for the Covid-19 vaccine online before heading to the hospitals and getting their first dose.
Once the registration process for phase 3 begins, users can head to the CoWIN portal and Aargya Setu app to register for the Covid-19 vaccine.
Covid-19 India tally
On Saturday, India registered 3,46,786 new coronavirus cases which pushed the country’s tally of infection to 1,66,10,481. The active cases have crossed the 25-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data updated on Saturday. The death toll rose to 1,89,544.
Most of these states have imposed lockdown, weekend lockdown, night curfew, and other lockdown-like restrictions to contain the deadly second wave of Covid-19.
