Amid the resurge of Covid-19, the government has cancelled CBSE Class 10 board exams and postponed Class 12 exams. The decision was taken after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that the results for Class 10 will be prepared based on an objective criterion to be developed by the CBSE because of the surge of Covid-19 cases across the country.

“Results of Class 10th will be prepared based on an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Class 12th exams will be held later, the situation will be reviewed on 1st June by the Board,” the Union Education Ministry said.
He further added, “Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him or her on this basis will be allowed to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams.”

“The pandemic situation in the country is seeing a resurgence of Covid- 19 positive cases in many states, with a few states having been affected more than others. In this situation, schools have been shut down in 11 states. Looking to the present situation of the pandemic and school closures, and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the students, it is decided that the board exams for Class 12 to be held from May 4 to June 14, 2021 have been postponed. These exams will be held hereafter. The situation will be reviewed on 1 June 2021 by the Board, and details will be shared subsequently. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations,” read the release by Union Education Ministry.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher Education Secretaries and other top officials attended the meeting.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal welcomed the decision. “I am glad that the exams have been cancelled/postponed. This is a great relief for lakhs of students and their parents,” Kejriwal tweeted.
On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had urged the Centre to cancel the CBSE board examinations.
