Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in his first election rally in the state ahead of the assembly elections. Addressing the rally in West Bengal’s Haldia, the Prime Minister said, ‘Didi gets upset when people shout ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogan but she never had any problem with anti-India’ ranting’.
The scathing remarks come days after Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure over ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chanting during the event to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in Kolkata. Sharing the dais with PM Modi, the West Bengal Chief Minister had refused to deliver a speech after the sloganeering at the Victoria Memorial on 23 January 2021.
‘Bengal will show TMC Ram Card’
In the Haldia rally, the Prime Minister intensified his offensive saying the people of Bengal are ready to show ‘Ram Card’ to the TMC government. Drawing an analogy from the football-match, he said, ‘People of West Bengal love the game of football. And speaking in the language of the game I want to say that the TMC govt has had many fouls which include misgovernance, political violence, corruption and the assaults on people’s beliefs. The people of Bengal have been watching it and they will soon show the Ram Card to the TMC.’
‘Revival of Left rule in TMC regime’
A day after the BJP launched ‘Poribortan Yatra’ in West Bengal against the TMC regime, PM Modi reminded Mamata Banerjee of the forgotten ‘Poribortan’ promise that she had made before coming to power. He also levelled allegation that the TMC did not honour its ‘Ma Maati Manush’ slogan and revived the corruption and crime of the erstwhile left government.
‘Bengal tired of Bua-Bhatija regime’
PM Modi took a swipe at Mamata Banerjee saying, ‘Bengal only got Nirmamta in her 10-year rule as her government remained busy with corruption and extortion instead of working for the people.’ He said that the TMC supporters are joining the BJP because they are tired of aunt-nephew (Bua-bhatija) regime.
TMC, Congress & Left in match-fixing: PM
Firing a direct salvo at the BJP’s political rivals in West Bengal, Prime Minister accused the TMC, Congress and the Left parties of plotting a match-fixing before the state elections. He said, ‘the BJP is in a direct fight with the TMC, but we have to remain alert of their covert allies. We used to hear about the match-fixing in games, but now the Left, Congress and TMC also are engaged in match-fixing and holding closed-door meetings in Delhi. In Kerala, the Left and the Congress have a deal of ruling the state alternatively. In Bengal, the Left only pretends to fight the TMC.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Bengal’s Halida to dedicate to the nation an LPG import terminal built by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. The terminal will fulfill the growing need for LPG in West Bengal and other states in Eastern and North-Eastern India. He also inaugurated the 348 km Dobhi–Durgapur Natural Gas Pipeline section, which is a part of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga project.
